Letter: Problem lies within Congress

The Columbian
Published: March 24, 2013, 5:00pm

Attributed to Benjamin Franklin is this quote: “When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” Ladies and gentlemen, we now see the decline and fall of America. It does not matter who or what party is in power. Our legislators are not doing their duty as congressmen and women. They have hidden behind their party and refuse to lead. They are good at pointing fingers at each other. If they look into a mirror, they would see the problem.

Once Europe gets its act together, it will not use the American dollar as world currency. We will have a far bigger monetary disaster on hand than the 1930s depression.

Whatever happened to President John Kennedy’s remark: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” The opposite is true today.
