Central Park — Clark College’s Independent was awarded as one of the top community college student newspapers in the country at the annual Associated College Press conference in San Francisco. The newspapers staff attended the conference Feb. 28 through March 3, where they received the seventh-place “Best of Show” award and also participated in workshops on topics that included ethics, investigative reporting and newsroom management. A focus was placed on multimedia and digital reporting, a growing part of the industry. Staff from more than 100 colleges and universities came to the conference, according to a Clark College press release. The Independent has won more than 40 statewide newspaper awards since 2010.
