PORTLAND — An Oregon National Guard helicopter crew spotted a missing hiker on Mount Hood and flew her to a Portland hospital for treatment.

Marcus Mendoza, a Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, says 23-year-old Mary Owen was found Saturday morning on Sandy Glacier.

He says the George Fox University senior has some injuries including a possibly fractured ankle and frostbite. Owen was hoisted into the helicopter and taken directly to Emmanuel Hospital in Portland.

The search for Owen began Friday, the day after her SUV was found in the Timberline Lodge parking lot. She was last seen on Sunday.

Owen is an experienced backpacker who previously hiked the length of the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada.

The woman’s father, Bruce Owen of McMinnville, says his daughter told him last week that she planned to climb the mountain with a group. But there have been no reports of other missing people on Mount Hood.
