Letter: Environmental expertise is crucial

I agree 100 percent with Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart’s objections to the appointment of state Sen. Don Benton as county director of environmental services. There are many more qualified (educated) environmental science administrators who can fill that position and provide effective managements from day one, whereas there is a very steep learning curve for Benton, who shows no knowledge in environmental issues.

It will take him the better part of two years to just learn the basics, whereas a graduate in environmental engineering from the Oregon State University would be a much better choice.

County Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke showed poor leadership and service to the voters of Clark County for not following the standard review and hiring practices that have been well-established for finding qualified individuals to serve the people of Clark County.
