A $4 million improvement project will close the intersection of Northeast 119th Street and Northeast 50th Avenue for several months starting next week, according to the Clark County Public Works department.

The project aims to improve sight distance and safety at the intersection. Contractor Tapani Underground of Battle Ground will raise the intersection by 6 feet and lower a hill to the east by about the same amount.

Right-turn lanes will also be built from 119th Street to southbound 50th Avenue and from 50th Avenue to eastbound 119th Street.

The intersection will close May 22, according to the county. It’s expected to reopen by early fall.

Federal grants will cover $2.2 million of the project cost. The rest will come from the county’s road fund and private sources including traffic impact fees.
