INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Marketing Mix defeated Tiz Flirtatious by a head to win the $250,500 Gamely Stakes on Monday, giving Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens his first win at Betfair Hollywood Park since 2005.
Marketing Mix ran 1 1/8 miles on the turf in 1:47.24 and paid $5, $3.20 and $2.20 as the 3-2 favorite in the Grade 1 race.
It was Stevens’ first victory at the track since he won the A Gleam Handicap on July 9, 2005, and it was his first Grade 1 victory there since he won the Hollywood Turf Cup aboard Pellegrino on Dec. 4, 2004. The 50-year-old rider began a comeback in January that has included a win in the Preakness aboard Oxbow. He won the Gamely for the fourth time in his career and first since 1997.
Tiz Flirtatious, who had the lead briefly with about a furlong to go, returned $3.20 and $2.20. Lady of Shamrock was another 4 14 lengths back in third and paid $2.40 to show.
