LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tim Duncan is sitting out the San Antonio Spurs’ visit to the Los Angeles Lakers to rest his bruised chest.

Boris Diaw started in Duncan’s place Friday night at Staples Center.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich isn’t sure how long he’ll be without Duncan, who was injured in Wednesday’s win over Memphis.

The four-time NBA champion is in his 17th NBA season, all with San Antonio.

Kobe Bryant of the Lakers, who joined the league one year before Duncan, also missed the game while recovering from a torn Achilles tendon.

The Lakers and Spurs hadn’t faced each other without either Bryant or Duncan on the court since 1996.
