ATLANTA (AP) — R.J. Hunter scored 27 points to lead four Georgia State starters in double figures in a 97-78 win over Southern Polytechnic on Saturday.

A close contest early in the first half, the Panthers used a 27-11 run to open a 39-21 lead on their way to a 49-33 halftime advantage.

Georgia State maintained its lead throughout the second half as the Hornets were unable to reduce the halftime deficit, trailing by as many as 33 points in the second half.

Two transfers had strong performances in their regular-season debuts for the Panthers. Ryan Harrow, a transfer from Kentucky, scored 20 points and added six assists. Curtis Washington, a USC transfer, tied a school record with nine blocked shots to help set the tone defensively.

Marcus Dortch had 20 points while C.J. McElrath added 15 points off the bench to lead Southern Polytechnic.
