One of the area’s smallest Walmart Supercenters, an 85,900-square-foot store, has opened at the Hayden Meadows shopping complex in Portland on the east side of Interstate 5.

The new store at Delta Park, 1123 Hayden Meadows Drive, features a 40,600-square-foot green roof operated under a two-year partnership with Portland State University’s Green Building Research Lab. The vegetative roof is equipped with sensors and a weather station to test aspects of green roof design, such as materials and soil depth.

Developed by Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the new store employs a workforce of approximately 200 sales associates. It is the second Walmart Supercenter to locate inside Portland city limits since 1995, when a Supercenter opened at Southeast 82nd and Holgate.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. operates two Supercenters in Vancouver, along with a variety store in Hazel Dell and a grocery-only Neighborhood Market store near Westfield Vancouver mall. Two additional Clark County stores are under construction, a Battle Ground Supercenter and a grocery-only Neighborhood Market at Fourth Plain Boulevard and Grand Avenue in Vancouver.

The company also plans to build Clark County Supercenters in Vancouver’s Salmon Creek and Orchards areas, although no groundbreaking dates have been announced.
