Mississippi State beats Kennesaw State 78-55

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State placed five players in double digits Tuesday night to pull away from Kennesaw State 78-55 at Humphrey Coliseum.

Sophomore Fred Thomas led the Bulldogs with 17 points in his first game of the season and helped MSU move to 2-0. Led by Yonel Brown with 15 points, Kennesaw State fell to 1-4 on the season.

Colin Borchert had 15 points for Mississippi State while Craig Sword added 13 points for the Bulldogs. Trivante Bloodman and Roquez Johnson had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for MSU.

Mississippi State held a 35-31 lead at halftime despite Kennesaw State shooting 54.2 percent from the floor. The Owls hit eight of their first 10 shots of the game but the Bulldogs took the lead for good with a Thomas free throw at the 8:33 mark of the first half.

MSU shot 47 percent and made 8 of 23 from three-point territory.
