The Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council has narrowed its field of executive director candidates to six, the agency announced Wednesday.

After launching its search earlier this year, RTC has selected six contenders with varying backgrounds: Katy Brooks, a senior manager of transportation planning and community affairs at the Port of Vancouver; Brian Gibson, executive director of the Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organization in Honolulu; Richard James, a transportation program manager with Clallam County; Matt Ransom, project development and policy manager at the city of Vancouver; Karl Welzenbach, executive director of the Sherman-Denison Metropolitan Planning Organization in Sherman, Texas and Stephen Williams, who served as executive director of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission in Charlottesville, Va.

The RTC board will pick from that pool to find a successor to Dean Lookingbill, who is retiring in December.

Finalist interviews are set for Nov. 22. An open-door public lunch with the candidates will be from noon to 1 p.m. at Vancouver City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St.
