SALEM, Ore. — The task force that coordinates Oregon’s response to tsunami debris from Japan may disband next year if no significant debris washes ashore over the winter.
The governor’s natural resources adviser, Gabriela Goldfarb, said at Thursday’s meeting there are systems in place that can be mobilized without the task force meetings.
The task force was formed after a 55-foot long dock washed ashore in June of 2012 on Agate Beach in Newport.
Since then, the Statesman Journal reports, few large items have come ashore in Oregon from the March 2011 tsunami that hit Japan.
