CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Dwan Caldwell scored 12 points and Tennessee Tech survived a late surge by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday night to win 62-60.

The Islanders (2-2) made it a 2-point game with 15 seconds to play on a 3-pointer by Hameed Ali, but Ali missed a jump shot with 3 seconds to go and time ran out.

Trailing 32-31 at the half, the Golden Eagles (2-2) re-took the lead 38-34 on a Caldwell layup and pulled away on a dunk by Ladon Carter and a 3-pointer by Josiah Moore — widening their lead to 11 points with 8:57 to play.

But the Islanders clawed back down the stretch, helped by three free throws by Jeff Beverly, who along with John Jordan scored 18 points on the night. Ali added 12 points.

Javon McKay scored 10 points for the Golden Eagles, who shot 43.5 percent from the field on 20-of-46 shooting.
