Letter: Impact on poorest by cutting SNAP

The Columbian
Published: November 20, 2013, 4:00pm

The Republican-controlled House wants to cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, food stamps for the poorest of the poor. The program had a budget of $80.4 billion in 2012. But if you are the richest of the rich, top 1 percent, you got billions in welfare. Those on the top of the food chain got $92 billion in corporate “welfare.” They are the entitled, the well-fed. This is the real “entitlement” population. Got to feel sorry for those poor, needy corporations. A little research showed that those poor corporations are sitting on $2 trillion of profits. That’s trillion, not billion, not million. But we are assured that those corporations are creating jobs for us. Really?
