NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Amos Olatayo tied a career-high by scoring 30 points, adding nine rebounds, to lead Louisiana-Monroe back from an 18-point second half deficit to beat Northwestern State 84-80 in overtime Thursday night.
Marvin Frazier Jr. of Northwestern State (2-2) tied the score at 78 on a pair of free throws with 1:34 left in overtime. Jalan West then stole the ball from ULM’s Nick Coppola, but Frazier missed a 3-point shot and, after grabbing his own offensive rebound, missed another jumper. Olatayo corralled the miss and his layup with 32 seconds remaining gave the Warhawks (2-1) the lead for good.
The Demons held a 52-34 lead with 15:02 to play in regulation before Olatayo took control, scoring 17 points in the final 11:36 of the second half and six more in the extra period.
Jayon James added 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
West scored 18 points for NSU.
