BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Marcus Cox set an Appalachian State freshman record with 215 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns as Appalachian State cruised to a 48-27 win over Western Carolina Saturday night.

Cox has 26 carries and scored three times in the first half to give the Mountaineers (4-8, 4-4 Southern Conference) a 31-0 lead midway through the second quarter in the regular season closer.

Kameron Bryant threw 10 of 16 for 186 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

Western Carolina finally got on the board before the break on a 25-yard Eddie Sullivan pass. Appalachian State started the second half with linebacker Karl Anderson intercepting a Sullivan pass and returning it 37 yards for another Mountaineers touchdown.

Sullivan finished Saturday’s game with 206 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Appalachian State amassed 491 yards of total offense on its way to its 59th all-time win against the Catamounts (2-10, 1-7).
