Sheriff’s survey seeks ratings for interaction

How would you rate your last interaction with a police officer? The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to rate how well their interactions went as part of the National Police Research Platform’s Police Community Interaction Survey.

The survey aims to collect data that improves police procedures and training programs nationwide. The sheriff’s office is one of about 100 agencies participating in the project.

Encounters that involve traffic stops and accidents, along with most nonviolent crimes, will be part of the survey, but those resulting from domestic violence or sexual assault or that involve children will not be surveyed.

As police reports are filed, community members will be sent letters asking them to participate that contain a code for the survey. The survey is available in English and Spanish, and can be taken over the phone or online.

Submitted information will go to the researchers, not the sheriff’s office. Data given to the sheriff’s office won’t include information identifying the person who took the survey or the deputy involved in the contact.
