Norfolk St. takes down Fairleigh Dickinson 70-62

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — Malcolm Hawkins scored 16 points, nine coming at the free throw line, as Norfolk State got by Fairleigh Dickinson 70-62 in the consolation round of the NIT Season Tip-Off on Monday.

All but one Norfolk State (4-2) starters finished in double figures. Anell Alexis scored 14, Brandon Goode had 13 points, five blocks and Pendarvis Williams added 10.

After trailing by double digits for most of the game, Mustafaa Jones made three free throws with 1:30 remaining to pull Fairleigh Dickinson closer at 65-58. Norfolk State’s Marese Phelps made a bucket on the next possession and the Spartans made enough free throws in the final minute (3 of 6).

Sidney Sanders Jr. scored a game-high 19 for Fairleigh Dickinson (1-6). The Knights made just 4 of 21 from 3-point range and 35.6 percent overall. Mathias Seilund had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Fairleigh Dickinson trailed 39-22 at halftime.
