Letter: Restore balance by less procreation

A Nov. 17 story “Chinese couples may not rush to begin baby boom” indicates that China is now “allowing” couples to have two children. The issue of freedom to give birth is complicated, certainly. When I was a young woman, if a couple really loved our planet, it was resolved that they would give birth to only two children.

I would hope that human beings now realize the billions upon billions of our species is only harming our planet; ideally, the population level around mid-19th century worked well. Although there were carbon emissions, the world was still able to maintain a balance. There was also not enough habitat destruction to cause animal populations to drop. The additional billions upon billions of added births on our planet, whether they be from China or other countries, are only going to increase our problems.

Let’s hope women voluntarily bring forth no more than two children, and let’s hope our Earth is able to once again find balance. People like Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar (19 children and they want one more) should be frowned upon, not venerated. It’s obvious to me, they do not care about our Earth.
