Jacksonville St. throttles Samford 55-14

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — DaMarcus James ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns as Jacksonville State dominated Samford 55-14 in the first round of the FCS playoffs.

After forcing a 3-and-out, Jacksonville State (10-3) marched 51 yards in 8 plays for the score. James capped off the drive with a 2-yard run. On the next possession, quarterback Eli Jenkins broke loose for a 72-yard touchdown.

James plunged in from 1-yard out for a second-quarter touchdown, and less than two minutes later, Miles Jones scampered in from 12. Jacksonville State outgained Samford 361-17 on its way to a 38-0 at halftime lead.

Jenkins threw for 115 yards and a touchdown while running for 115 and another score.

Samford finally got in the board in the third quarter when Andy Summerlin found Kelvin Clay from 31 yards out. Summerlin finished with 7 of 24 for 81 yards.

Jeremiaha Gates ran for 63 yards on 13 carries.
