Letter: Grateful that individual took a stand

I want to express my thanks to Anita Largent, a Clark County employee, for her willingness to bring our not-so-esteemed Clark County commissioners to task for hiring Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, without due process. Largent’s action to file a lawsuit is a brave one given that she is currently employed by the county.

One of the important reasons organizations have a hiring process is to ensure that all the applicable laws are followed. When Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke decided to ignore the concerns of others and hire Benton as environmental services director, they were making a choice which they need to be held accountable for. Finally, someone has.

The Oct. 18 article, “Complaint targets Madore and Mielke,” on this issue was very insightful. I am always amazed by the lack of professionalism exhibited by Commissioner Mielke and the lack of competence exhibited by Commissioner Madore.
