Wenning throws 5 TDs, Ball State tops Akron 42-24

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Keith Wenning threw five touchdown passes as Ball State remained undefeated in conference play with a 42-24 win over Akron on Saturday.

Ball State (8-1, 5-0 Mid-American) scored on touchdown passes from Wenning to Willie Snead on each of its first two possessions. Snead hauled in a 12-yarder for the game’s first score and then a 6-yarder on the following drive, putting the Cardinals up 14-3. Snead had seven catches for 100 yards.

Jordan Williams also caught two touchdown passes from Keith Wenning, an 8-yarder just before the half and a 20-yarder in the third quarter to give Ball State a 35-17 lead. Williams tallied over 100 yards receiving for the third time this season, finishing with 12 receptions for 124 yards. Jahwan Edwards added 120 yards rushing and a score for the Cardinals.

Jawon Chisholm ran for 166 yards and a touchdown for Akron (2-7, 1-4).
