INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Colts linebacker Pat Angerer didn’t practice Friday because of a concussion suffered almost a week ago.

Angerer, who is listed day-to-day, said he suffered the concussion during a hit in Indy’s final preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals last Thursday. He says he thought the symptoms would go away.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Angerer was evaluated by the team’s medical staff Thursday and learned the symptoms were linked to those of a concussion. He was evaluated again before Friday’s practice. If he’s not ready for Sunday’s season opener against the Oakland Raiders, Pagano said Kelvin Sheppard will start at linebacker.

Wide receiver Reggie Wayne missed practice because of personal reasons. Pagano said Wayne would be back Saturday for Indy’s final walkthrough.
