BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Top-ranked Novak Djokovic beat Vasek Pospisil in straight sets Friday to give Serbia a 1-0 lead over Canada in the Davis Cup semifinals.

Djokovic won 6-2, 6-0, 6-4 on an indoor clay court at Belgrade Arena.

Djokovic was coming off a four-set defeat to Rafael Nadal in the U.S. Open final Monday. He won 12 consecutive games midway through Friday’s singles and had no problem dispatching the 41st-ranked Canadian.

Janko Tipsarevic faced Canada’s top player, Milos Raonic, in the second singles.

The winner of the best-of-five series will face the Czech Republic or Argentina in the final in November.
