PULLMAN (AP) — Washington State University has renamed a campus building the Kathi Goertzen Communication Addition to honor the life of a former Seattle television news anchor.

Goertzen, 54, died last year after a lengthy, public battle with brain tumors. The 1980 WSU graduate was a key figure in the formation of The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication.

“In Kathi’s honor we pledge to create a new generation of students armed with the latest technology, yet steeped in the traditions of Edward R. Murrow,” said its founding dean, Lawrence Pintak. “It’s what we believe she would have wanted.”
