PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh freshmen Tyler Boyd and James Conner are making an immediate impact on the Panthers.

Boyd piled up 195 all-purpose yards and scored twice in a 49-27 victory over New Mexico on Saturday while Conner ran for 119 yards and two scores of his own. Freshman tight end Scott Orndoff also found the end zone as the Panthers (1-1) evened their record.

Coach Paul Chryst called Boyd “fun to watch” while quarterback Tom Savage says Boyd is one of those players who has a knack for picking things up quickly.

A dozen freshmen have played so far this season for Pitt as Chryst tries to find the kind of athletes who he feels can play in the ACC.

The Panthers play at Duke on Saturday.
