OLYMPIA — Washington state’s attorney general is hiring a new open government ombudsman who will do the work full time.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson says he is investing in the full-time position in the interest of promoting open, transparent government. The assistant attorney general in the position is tasked with answering questions about open government issues and helping resolve disputes.

The position created in 2005 was moved to a half-time role in 2011 due to budget challenges. Former ombudsman Tim Ford left the position recently to work for a Senate committee.

Ferguson says he is seeking to fill the position as soon as possible.
