Women proud of spent hornets' nest

Lucia Falls — On Aug. 31, Steve Perry discovered an empty hornets' nest next on his 33/4-acre spread on the East Fork of the Lewis River off Rock Creek Road. That property was home for 25 years to the late LeRoy Carter and Mary Alice Carter, Perry's mother-in-law. Mary Alice was intrigued with the novelty of the nest and deemed it worthy of a footnote in the goings-on of the riverside area. "No one was injured, and I noticed it in a tree — and it was about as tall as the house," Perry said. "Then we discovered it was abandoned."
