KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has received a pep talk from former coach Phillip Fulmer as it attempts to end a two-game skid.

Fulmer attended a Tennessee practice Tuesday for the first time since he stopped coaching the Volunteers after the 2008 season. Tennessee coach Butch Jones said Fulmer spoke to the team and added that “to have him back, I think, meant a lot to everyone.”

Fulmer, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame last year, lettered as an offensive guard at Tennessee from 1969-71. He coached Tennessee to a 1998 national championship and went 152-52-1 at his alma mater before getting fired in 2008.

Tennessee (2-2) hosts South Alabama (2-1) on Saturday.
