Vancouver-based Northwest Pipe Co. has failed in its effort to win a multi-million dollar contract, according to a report in the Flint Journal.

American Cast Iron Pipe Co. submitted the winning bid of $79.4 million to supply pipe to Michican's Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline, the newspaper reported. Northwest Pipe ranked second with a $81.2 million bid.

In an August conference call with investors, Northwest Pipe CEO Scott Montross predicted lower profits for the rest of this year, and said that the Michigan project was one of several initiatives that had the potential to improve the company's fortunes in 2014.
