Regarding Leonard Pitts’ March 31 column, “Supremes consider wild swing in Hobby Lobby case,” the owners of Hobby Lobby hold a deep religious conviction against contraceptives and believe all contraceptives induce abortions. They claim Hobby Lobby itself is against the funding and support of contraceptives.
Hobby Lobby, like other crafts stores, is full of imports from China, which limits its families to one or, occasionally, two children. How do the women of China prevent pregnancies, prevent giving birth or, having had a baby, what do they do if it’s not the desired male gender? They use contraceptives, have abortions and sometimes practice female infanticide. How can a corporation do business with corporations from such a nation and claim it has a religious conscience?
Hobby Lobby doesn’t have a religious conscience, nor do its owners, nor, truly, do its employees or those who shop there. If it did, you couldn’t find a single item in its stores marked “Made in China.”
