Letter: Who pays? You do

Boeing paid no federal taxes last year. Did you pay yours?

Boeing also has received $8.7 billion in tax breaks over the past 16 years from you, a taxpayer of Washington state. The same Washington state that lacks funding for primary education.

Locally, Elie Kassab, of Prestige Development, recently opened his luxury apartment project, Prestige Plaza. Kassab got the city block from Holland Inc. for $750,000, the city’s old police building for $200,000, and now Prestige Plaza’s estimated worth is $16 million. He also got a 12-year tax abatement from the city worth $1 million. Did you get one?

Barry Cain and his buddies at Gramor Development got the city and railroad to spend millions so he can put his $1.3 billion development on the Columbia River waterfront and billions back in the pockets of local investors. What does the city get? It gets the bill to maintain the development’s roads, etc., after one year.

Ever get tired of the good old rich boys scratching each others’ backs at your expense? Perhaps you should get out and vote differently.
