YAKIMA — The Yakima County sheriff’s office says a hiker who fell and injured himself on Mount Adams on Sunday has been rescued.

The 39-year-old hiker was transported to the White Salmon Hospital early Monday.

Lt. Brian Winter reports the man called for help at about 1 p.m. Sunday after falling in boulders on Mt. Adams and possibly breaking his leg and ribs. Because of bad weather and other challenges, the rescue took more than 15 hours.

Winter reports a storm system prevented a helicopter rescue so several wilderness rangers hiked in and brought the man down the mountain.
