Countywide burn ban in effect

The Southwest Clean Air Agency on Tuesday announced an immediate burn ban in Clark County due to deteriorating air quality and stagnant weather patterns.

The agency announced a Stage 1 ban, which prohibits the use of all fireplaces and uncertified wood stoves generally made before 1990. All outdoor burning is also prohibited.

The ban does not apply to people who use wood burning as their only source of heat, according to the clean air agency.

A high-pressure system moved into the area and could remain in place until Thursday, according to the agency. The ban will remain in place until air quality improves, officials said.
