The Washougal Panthers did not have to shoot the ball particularly well Wednesday night. They did just about everything else to walk away with a 20-point victory in a non-league boys basketball game.

Washougal forced 24 turnovers and also won the rebounding battle to open the season 2-0.

Ryan Taylor and Noah Prangley each scored 14 points for the Panthers. Spencer Adams added eight, Dylan Snapp had seven, and Yorro Bah scored six. Exactly how the Panthers like it.

“We’re sharing the ball a lot more,” Prangley said. “It’s all of us, playing as a team.”

Prangley finished the first quarter with score from close range then buried a 3-pointer, giving the Panthers a 19-5 lead. Mountain View pulled within seven in the second quarter but that’s as close at this one got.

While Mountain View is rebuilding, the Thunder are a Class 4A team. So the Panthers, a 2A program, feel this was a good test.

“I think it was awesome to make a statement, especially for our league,’ Prangley said.

Washougal went 1 for 18 from the floor in the second quarter, but its defense was strong enough to go into half with a nine-point lead.

Robert Gehrke had 12 rebounds for Washougal. Dan Davis had five steals.

Ari Smith led Mountain View with 14 points. Kyle Johnson added nine. Corey Henderson grabbed 11 rebounds for the Thunder.
