SEATTLE — The final eight pontoons being built at Tacoma for the new Highway 520 floating bridge are floating out of their casting basin this week.

The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reports only three larger pontoons remain to be built for the Lake Washington bridge. They are being constructed in Aberdeen and should be finished next spring.

The pontoons are towed to Seattle where crews are anchoring and linking the sections to form a six-lane bridge connecting with Bellevue.

The new bridge, scheduled to open in the spring of 2016, will be made up of 77 pontoons. Of those, 44 were built at Tacoma and 33 at Aberdeen.
