RICHLAND — The only nuclear power plant in the Northwest, the Columbia Generating Station at Richland, turned 30 years old over the weekend.
It’s owned by the Energy Northwest utility consortium and it supplies a share of the electricity used by 92 Northwest utilities through the Bonneville Power Administration.
Energy Northwest says the plant is currently on its longest continuous operating run — more than 500 days. It’s been more than five years since an unplanned shutdown.
Energy Northwest says nuclear power is carbon-free, reliable and cost-effective. The Columbia Generating Station has 30 years remaining in its operating life.
