The Clark College women’s basketball team finished third at the Skagit Crossover, defeating Yakima Valley 70-67 on Saturday at Mount Vernon.

Megan Pyles led the Penguins with 20 points and eight assists. Alexa Orcutt had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Taylor Howlett had 15 points. Howlett was named to the all-tournament team.

Clark improved to 5-3 and is not scheduled to play until opening NWAC West division play on Jan. 3 at home against Green River.

Men

The Clark men’s team came up short in its bid for third place at the Clackmas Crossover, falling to host Clackamas 65-58.

“As coaches we need to do a better job of finding answers for our players,” Clark coach Alex Kirk said. “We’re still trying to find our identity. We have a lot of players who are green from having not played a lot of college basketball.”

Rian Bassett had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Penguins, and Paulo Giacomelli and Hayden Hall each scored 10 points.

Clark (5-4) will next scheduled to play an alumni game on Dec. 27, and then host Portland on Dec. 30 before beginning NWAC West division play on Jan. 3 against Green River.
