A balanced scoring effort and solid second half defense got the Chieftains a first-round win at the Lake City (Idaho) Invitational.

Columbia River held Sandpoint to eight points in the second half.

“We played much better defensively in the second half,” River coach David Long said. “We limited them to one shot, and they weren’t good shots.”

Jacob Hjort led the Chieftains in scoring with 12 points.

Columbia River next plays Rocky Mountain of Boise in the semifinals Tuesday.
