East County Fire & Rescue is taking applications for its spring Community Emergency Response Team Program.

The program educates residents about disaster preparedness including instruction on fire safety, basic search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. Its goal is to have participants walk away able to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace in a widespread emergency, when a professional first responder is not immediately available.

The classes are from 7 to 9:30 p.m. April 25 and May 2, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26 and May 3.

The class is $30, which covers supplies and materials. For more information or to register, call 360-834-4908 or visit ecfr.us.
