The Chieftains balanced scoring attack and solid defense produced a first-round victory at the Lake City (Idaho) Winter Tournament.

Joey Bean’s 11 points led the Chieftains in scoring.

“They were a high-tempo team,” River coach David Long said, noting Idaho doesn’t use a shot clock. “We made sure we controlled the tempo and defended their scorers.”

Columbia River next faces Kentridge at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals of the eight-team tournament.
