ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Seth Wescott’s quest for a third straight Olympic gold medal was halted before he reached Sochi, when the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association left him off the Olympic snowboardcross team it named Saturday.

Nate Holland headlined the men’s team, making his third Olympics, with Nick Baumgartner getting his second shot at the Games.

Lindsey Jacobellis will lead the women, trying to win the gold medal that has eluded her the last two tries.

Wescott has struggled since 2012, when a shoulder injury cut short his season. He’s been dealing with knee and leg injuries for the past nine months and said recently he was nowhere near fully recovered.

In his last chance to make an impression on the U.S. coaches, Wescott was eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the Winter X Games on Friday.
