Letter: Put beliefs into action by fostering

One of the most decisive ideologies in our culture is abortion and birth control.

Neurophysiologists have determined that children raised with undue stress, called Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), have permanently altered brains and this neural alteration may impact their ability to function and may cause lifelong suffering.

My involvement of 40 years with clinical psychology has proven this true. Children born to parents not prepared financially or emotionally are often exposed to damaging stress. I was one of those children and I have seen it in hundreds of patients. This damage can be inappropriately passed off as children being resilient — what they are, actually, are masters of repression and denial since they don’t have a developed cortical structure to respond outwardly to stress.

Jesus challenged, “You shall be known by your fruits.” If you ascribe to an ideology that prohibits abortion and birth control, put your beliefs into action (fruits), otherwise you are, as Jesus said, “empty vessels,” spouting words with nothing behind your beliefs.

It has been estimated that there are over half a million children who have parents unable to care for them in the United States. I challenge you to live your religion and beliefs and foster or adopt a child, since limiting access to abortion and birth control has forced unfit or unwilling parents to give birth to children who will bear the suffering.
