Here’s a suggestion that should save both taxpayer money and make the White House more efficient.
President Obama regularly takes trips around the country for the purpose of fundraising for his party. According to Air Force documents published by Judicial Watch, a watchdog group, it costs the taxpayer more than $228,000 per hour to operate Air Force One. And that doesn’t cover the cost of the advance team, additional security, accommodations for all of the president’s entourage, and all the other assorted expenses.
If the cost to the taxpayer for all these trips is more than the president can reasonably expect to garner from his fundraising efforts even at $32,000 per contributor, why don’t we just have the taxpayer pay the president’s party directly the amount the president would have expected to have gotten at the fundraiser. He can then stay in the Oval Office and work rather than taking the trip on the taxpayer’s dollar. It saves taxpayer money and keeps the president working. It’s a win-win for everybody. The perfect solution.
