Letter: Port is enemy of the people

The Columbian
Published: June 1, 2014, 5:00pm

I read port Commissioner Brian Wolfe’s comment about feeling stabbed in the back (“City set to fight Bakken oil traffic growth,” May 20). I feel that our community is being stabbed in the back with the port commission entering into the Tesoro-Savage oil proposition contract.

I cannot believe the port commissioners thought this proposal would go through without some public outcry. With no public input or awareness, the port commission signed a contract that has locked the community into what is being demonstrated to be a secret deal made behind closed doors. You don’t just go willy-nilly into a contract. Or maybe some attorneys do.

The port commissioners shall be named as enemies of the people by opening this Pandora’s box. And it will be with the rail traffic, the storage tanks, odors and the potential for pollution.

I feel that we are being sold down the river with a proposition that will have far-reaching and negative effects on this area and community.
