Eric Estes, Skyview High School’s baseball coach and a social studies teacher, has been on paid administrative leave since Friday.

“He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation due to an allegation of misconduct that occurred in 1997 in Maryland,” said Pat Mattison, spokeswoman for Vancouver Public Schools.

A representative of the Frederick Police Department in Frederick, Md., on Tuesday confirmed an investigation into an unnamed male Vancouver Public Schools employee but said no charge has been filed.

In 1997, Estes was a right-handed pitcher for the Frederick Keys, a minor league baseball team in Frederick.

Vancouver Public Schools is cooperating fully with the investigation and is taking direction from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland authorities, Mattison said.

“Vancouver Public Schools has not received any reports or allegations of misconduct during his 14 years with the district,” she said.

Estes coached Skyview to the Class 4A state baseball championship in 2013, the first state title in the program’s history. The Washington State Baseball Coaches association named Estes the Class 4A co-coach of the year.
