A Vancouver man suspected of intoxicated driving was injured late Tuesday when he lost control of his car and it went underneath a tractor trailer, according to Washington State Patrol.

Jacob Campbell, 22, was driving a 1991 Pontiac Firebird north on Interstate 5 just after 10 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle near Northeast 99th Street, the patrol said. The vehicle crossed the freeway from left to right and then back toward the median. The Firebird then slid under the trailer of a 2011 Freightliner and was run over by its rear wheels, according to WSP.

Campbell was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition Wednesday. He was cited by police for driving under the influence, according to WSP.

The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
