Letter: Valuation doesn’t add up

The Columbian
Published: June 9, 2014, 5:00pm

I just received a notice from Clark County that the assessed valuation of my home in 2015 will increase by nearly 30 percent from last year. I thought it a bit excessive since my Social Security increase for this year was right around 1 percent. Then talking to my neighbor, I found that he, too, was hit by the massive increase. So I’ve come to the conclusion, no hard facts, that whoever did the valuation was a student of the new Common Core math training. And while sitting at the computer instead of physically seeing the properties, which may or may not have had improvements, they typed in a figure that was simple for that assessor to understand. So, figuring 3 percent was a nice number, the assessor then added a zero, because in Common Core, they don’t mean anything, and entered it into the computer.

If I checked with all the families in my immediate area, I wouldn’t be surprised to see that the majority received the same increase that I did.

Where are those television investigative reporters when you need them?
