Columbia River promotes JV volleyball coach

Kaitlyn Johnson, who has been with the Columbia River volleyball program for the past four seasons, has been promoted to head coach, according to the school’s athletic director.

Johnson also will be teaching at Columbia River beginning this fall, Tony Liberatore said.Johnson had been the junior varsity coach.

The top job in the program opened recently when Moe Melhart resigned to take a college coaching job in California.

Columbia River has reached the Class 3A state tournament the past two seasons. Last fall, the Chieftains made it to the final four, winning two five-game thrillers, before falling in the semifinals. Columbia River took home the fourth-place trophy.
