MEDFORD, Ore. — Marbled tree frogs and Asian glass lizards would be welcomed in Oregon but two subspecies of river otters wouldn’t be allowed under rules that protect native wildlife.
A review by the state Wildlife Integrity Panel says the frogs, lizards and four other reptiles are considered low risks that could be sold as pets. They are unlikely to compete and survive if they escape in the wild. But others are too high a risk along with the out-of-state otters.
The Mail Tribune reports the owner of the House of Reptiles in Tigard, Tim Creswell, petitioned the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for the reptiles. A Junction City man wanted the otters.
The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission votes Friday in Salem on the recommendations for the prohibited species list.
